Our testimony - Jadon is healed!

On 30th June 2008, my 2nd baby Jadon was born. Even though he was my 2nd baby, he meant alot more to me than my first. That's because I knew him before he came to me. In 2005 when I was expecting my first baby, I wrote 2 names in my pregnancy journal:

Girl - Jaimie
Boy - Jadon

My maternal instincts told me it was a boy but I was wrong! It turned out to be Jaimie. :)
So for the 2nd pregnancy, I knew it has to be Jadon this time, Jadon has to come and so I prayed for it. God granted me my desire and I was very happy and strongly felt like I knew Jadon way before.

As much as he was special to me, he also gave me the most pain - physical labor pain as well as emotional pain. After a 14 hour labour, his newborn checkup showed an elevated reading for his TSH (Thryoid Stimulating Hormones) which meant there was a possibility for Hypothyroidism. This sounded so alien to me since my first baby did not have a single health issue. My whole world came crashing down. I know there are many other health issues which are more serious but I just couldn't help but think "WHY ME?".

The doctor's explanation in layman's terms was - if it's not treated, he will become stupid, retarded and with poor growth.

With that explanation, my world really came crashing down. Everyday I just looked out for signs of retardation. Every little single movement he had would make me wonder and worry if it was normal. I just lost the enjoyment of a newborn.

on 29th July 2008, 1 month old Jadon started his daily Synthroid dosage after 2 retests which showed a rising trend in his TSH levels. We were told to take the medication daily without fail for 3 years because the first 3 years were the most crucial for brain and physical development.
When he turns 3 years old, he would be taken off the medication for 1 month and if his TSH reading came back normal, it means his case is transient and he would be able to quit the medicine. If not, it would mean his thyroid glands are unable to function and he would have to take the medicine for life.

Looking at my then 1 month old Jadon, "lifetime medication" seemed to me a very cruel word and even though I prayed for stength and faith, I had no peace and comfort at all. I couldn't totally let go. Whenever someone commented he was cute or tried to play with him, I had doubts in me, thinking they were noticing he has a sickness even though one with a thyroid disorder doesn't look abnormal in anyway. As he grew, he responded more and I gradually began to let go and was able to surrender all to God. I eventually had this thinking in my mind - whatever may come, the result is going to be good, he is going to be healed so why should I worry about what happens in between?

Over the 3 years, with the help of medication, his TSH levels were maintained low which meant his condition was stablised. I began to have more peace or rather I was not bothered by it anymore and became a little lazy in praying for his complete healing.

Jadon turned 3 on 30th June 2011 and we stopped the medication from 1st July to 29th July as planned. During this time, I came back close to God again because I started attending a Korean church where God's presence was greatly felt. My church leaders, pastors and myself began praying very diligently. We fasted for 1 week and met in prayers. We believed and declared in the name of Jesus that Jadon was healed.

29th July 2011, we went in to the doctor's for the results. Jadon's TSH levels were 6.8 without the medication. It was a rise compared to when he was under the medication (usually 2 or 3 points)and was not a good sign afterall. However our pediatric endocrinologist who had been seeing him since newborn days said that as long as it's not above 10, there is no need to go back to medication as yet. He suggested going 1 more month without the medicine to see if the reading drops. Needless to say, if it drops then we will be saying goodbye to the medicine. If it doesn't it means he will continue the medicine again.

I didn't have a bit of doubt or disappointment at all. I knew at once that it was all part of God's plan to bring me back closer to Him once again. This time, we fasted the whole month, prayed and believed and claimed victory for Jadon even harder. Coincidentally (actually not), the pastor's messages during this period was all about God's timing, waiting for God's timing, healing in God's timing! How appropriate!

29th August 2011, we went in the 2nd time. "It went up abit but...." where the doctor's words. I was scared abit but he was actually referring to the last time. As he mumbled that, he opened the file for this time's result. The graph showed a drop. It was 5.5 this time and I had prayed for a significant drop! My mind went blank for a moment and then I started tearing. I was just so thankful and overwhelmed by God's love and faithfulness at that moment.

As I think back now, I think I know why God didn't just let Jadon pass the first retests 3 years ago but yet "allowed" him to end up taking the medicine and breaking my heart. It was all part of God's plan to draw me closer back to Him. I don't think I would have sought God again if we didn't go through that difficult period. He even sent me to a church where His presence is so strongly felt because I always felt that God's presence can never be felt in Korean churches since it's not my language. Now I know I don't want to go back to where I was before. It is very good to be in God's presence all the time and indeed, God heals in His time.

On the evening of 24th Dec 2010, we had a Christmas Eve service in church. My friends and I from the Junior class were supposed to perform a song & dance item so we had practised a few times before the actual event. Didi attends the Infant class and they didn't join us during practice so he just stood there without having to do anything. Mummy and Pappy were surprised to see Didi in that Pororo costume because he usually won't even want to wear a hat or anything extra on his body. Anyway he didn't cry and just stood there beside me throughout the whole performance.

Yesterday was Korean culture class so we had to wear the hanbok. Since midnight it started to snow so the whole ground was covered with snow when we went to school.
It was so difficult walking on the snowy ground in my hanbok. We literally skated on the slippery ground.

It's hard to snap pictures of me and Didi playing together because we are always fighting and snatching each other's toys. Today I managed to sit down with him and play doctor. It was fun because he did everything I told him to. Now, that is what I call play - means doing it MY way!

The church that operates my school celebrated its 13th anniversary yesterday and at the thanksgiving service, my friends and I performed. We practised during school time and finally on the actual day we put on angel costumes for the song. It was my first time performing and mummy said she was proud of me because she didn't know I could do this. It was a last minute decision to join because I saw my friends practising and I thought I also wanted to peform so I practised. I didn't even show her the steps at home!

Last week I went on a trip to the museum with my school. The pictures taken in the museum turmed out to be blury but we managed to take a nice group picture outside the museum.

Last week at the salon when mummy was having a haircut, the stylist commented that Jadon's hair was long and suggested trimming his fringe. Mummy thought it was free (since it's going to be just very minimal cutting) so she said yes. It turned out to be a little chaotic because he cried quite a bit but managed to calm down with a lollipop. But the hairstyle was totally not mummy's desired style (mummy likes it messy and long). But now we feel that Didi looks good in his new hairstyle.

At the end of the session, mummy was charged for Jadon's cut!!!

9 Sept 2010 - We went to Osan for the US Army airshow. Because of the traffic jam, we arrived late and the show was over. Nevetherless we managed to see real fighter planes and helicopters. It was a nice experience afterall.

Last Sunday we went to the manual car wash centre to wash Pappy's car. We planned to help Pappy wipe and clean but because Didi kept whining that we had to stay in the car to play and drink banana milk.

Jadon will turn 25 months in 3 day's time. But he is already putting 2 words together to form short sentences. Mummy said I could only do this when I was close to 3 years old!

3 years ago, we had a pet snail from a bunch of vegetables and we put it in the balcony, gave it watermelon and leaves but it escaped after a few days and never came back. This year, we adopted a pet snail from another bunch of vegetables that mummy bought.
Didi enjoys looking at the snail but he is afraid to touch or even go near it.
Now, our snail is hiding in one of our plants and will come out whenever he wants some sunshine.

This year we went down south to 전라도 instead of up north to Kangwondo where we always went. This time, it was also Didi's birthday and we had a cake in the chalet at night. The chalet was facing the sea and it was very nice but with a little bit dirty with mosquitoes and dead insects lying all over. Wemanaged to visit the Dinosaur Museum, bamboo forest and green tea plantation. At the bamboo forest, I got biten by a big fat mosquito and had allergic reaction on my legs. They swelled up and was so painful and itchy. It was an unforgettable holiday!

Didi is totally obsessed with the car and insists on sitting in it several times a day. He says "Papa, car" and wants Pappy to bring him downstairs to the carpark so he can sit in his car seat and insists on having the seat belt all fastened.

This is our car. It is a Daewoo Espero which is almost not visible on the road now. Pappy got it from Gomo when they changed to a new car about 6 years ago. This car was purchased by Gomo in 1994 and then passed down to Pappy and Mummy in 2004. It is even older than me and Didi. The car has shown many signs of ageing. There's tape all over the car to cover the scratches incurred by Mummy during parking, to patch broken parts that fell off from the car, and one wire hanger inside the exhaust pipe to stop the farting sound. The seats inside are old and dirty, the air con is spoilt, the windscreen has a crack. This Saturday 26th June 2010, we will be getting our new car and this car will be scraped.

Last week in school, we had a marketing trip to the supermarket. We made the strawberry shopping bag before setting out. Mummy was asked to write a shopping list of 2 items to get. She also enclosed 3,000won with the shopping list.

The 2 items were:
1. Pororo bandaid (something I wanted so much because of the Pororo design)
2. Kancho choco biscuit snacks

In the supermarket, they didn't have the Pororo bandaid so I settled for Thomas & Friends bottled juice and the biscuits snacks. I paid at the counter myself and got back the change! Then the lady at the supermarket gave me a lollipop too!

Look at Didi now! He is 23 months and he is talking more than me when I was at that age. These are the words he can say:

At 23 months - Jadon quit his diapers

At 23 months, Jadon does not need his diapers anymore for day and night. Mummy still puts it on for him when we go out, just in case he wets his pants but each time he comes back home with a dry crumpled unused diaper. He is able to say "sshii" which means pee in Korean and then he heads straight to the toilet with mummy helping him. Recently he has been saying this word whenever he fights with me over something. Because he knows when he says the word "sshii" mummy will ran to him immediately to attend to him. How wise!

Last week on our way to the clinic, I insisted on sitting in the stroller. Mummy didn't bring her baby carrier so she couldn't carry Didi but I INSISTED on sitting inside. Having Didi walk to the clinic may take ages so mummy decide to take a BIG risk by putting us both inside. Poor Didi had to balance on my lap that's why he didn't look too happy. But it was an enjoyable experience for me because it's something we never done before. Poor mummy had to push the stroller with extra strength and care to make sure this small stroller won't fall apart.

In our 2nd cooking lesson last week, I made burgers. We got to cut the ingredients and stuffed them into the bun. It tasted so nice that mummy ended up not cooking dinner and we just finished everything!

Since I started school, I have been getting many new things because we need them in school - cooking apron, artime apron, hello kitty chopsticks for bento, etc., and now my very own hanbok.

The first time I wore the hanbok was when I was 1 year old, at my birthday party but now, this is my very own. I am supposed to wear it to school every 3rd Friday of the month because we have traditional Korean ettiqutte class.

This afternoon Didi woke up exceptionally early from his afternoon and mummy decided to bring him to the nearby lake park for a walk and to see the sakura. They seem to have enjoyed themselves even though I was not there!

Last Saturday was my 4th birthday. We had a small celebration that started with lunch at a bbq restaurent where we had lots of beef and then cake cutting at home. Mummy got me a Pororo cake which I wanted so badly. Unfortunately the cake did not taste as nice as it looked.
My present this year was a baby stroller. It is not the normal stroller but a deluxe pram design. I made a special request to Mummy and told her to get it before my birthday and not on the actual day itself. We were all down with flu over the weekend so I looked so grouchy during the cake cutting session as I just woke up from my nap.

School is so far so good for me. I have picked up alot of Korean, made new friends and learnt so many new songs. In short, I am enjoying every single minute of it. Besides the regular lessons, we also have physical training, Korean tradition & ettiquette, cooking and art. Here are some of my pictures!

Mummy's homemade birthday cake

Last week was mummy's birthday. She made a strawberry cheese cake for the first time in her life.
It didn't require baking so it's easy to make. I helped to decorate it with the chocolate powder and fresh cream. Here's the verdict:

Mummy didn't know we have to add sugar into the fresh cream so it was tasteless, plus the choco powder, the top layer was just BITTER. the whipping was done by hand so it's not whipped enough and the cream collapsed. The words "Happ Birthday Mummy" were written by me with mummy holding my hand. The words just collapsed too! The candle is a digit 2 candle which was used on my 2nd birthday cake and we kept it till now. We used it because we had no other candle.

Other than the bitter top coating, the inside (strawberry cheese cake) was NICE! Looked messy but tasted good.

Mummy was happy even though she had the digit 2 candle, a bitter cake, 2 little monkeys trying to lick the cream off the cake. Mummy turned 31 years old and is proud of her age!

Yesterday, 4th march 2010, I started school for the first time in my life.
Since about a year ago, I have been begging mummy to let me go to school because I want to play with friends and learn ABC and 가나다. Mummy had been saying "next year" and finally that "next year" is here! I just went straight into the classroom yesterday and started playing with my new friends. Mummy went back home and came after lunch to pick me up. Today, she came early again and I requested that she come later from next week onwards so that I can stay with my friends for a longer time.

Mummy said she was proud of me. ^.^

We haven't had new toys in a long time. This time, to celebrate my going to school for the first time, both Didi and me got new toys from mummy. I got a shovel toy that works on a remote control. My best friend has this toy and the last time we went to his house, I was attracted to it and so mummy got me the same one. Didi got a boom boom car!!! The car even has a number plate. Maybe gonggong will go buy 4D with this number.

This morning, we both got up as early as 6:30am just to play the toys. Didi walked straight to his car the moment he got up.

20 months old - Jadon and his toilet culture

Since about a month ago, mummy tried to introduce Didi to the junior toilet seat in our toilet. Mummy would put him on the seat after he pooped and told him "when you want to poo you do it here like your nuna".
Once or twice mummy managed to catch him before he pooped and we just put him on the seat. Those were some successful times. However today, at 20 months old, Jadon told mummy he needed to poo by making the "ughhh" sound and pointing to his diaper. We took him to the toilet, sat him comfortably on the junior seat and he did his business just like a big boy. Way to go Didi~~~!!

27th Feb 2010 ~ Fun at friend's house

Yesterday we went to my best's friend 승원이 오빠's house for fun time. We have not met for about 4 months because we were staying indoors most of the time due to the cold weather. Spring is here and we have to be going out more often! Anyway he's got ALOT of toys in his house and it was like a play room. Being a passionate lover for cars, Didi immediately got into the toy car the moment he stepped in. My favourite toy was the 3 little pigs little paper house.
We had homemade kimbab for lunch and had a good time. Both didi and me didn't nap the whole time and ended up sleeping in the car on the way back home and woke up with muscle ache this morning.

6 Feb 2010 - Trip to Seoul Land

Yesterday we went to Seoul Land with the main purpose of playing the snow sled because I watched it on TV and it seemed so interesting so mummy decided to make a trip there. They had so much fun stuff there like trill rides, ice sled and even donkey rides. But we were too excited to do the snow sled that I didn't ride on the donkey. I just touched it! We also let Didi walk by himself but he just walked all over the place without waiting for mummy. He just hasn't learnt the big boy walk yet!!

16 Jan '10 - Jadon started to say many words. Other than his very 1st word (Mama) few months ago, he said "GO GO" which means GongGong and "PerPer" which is PoPo and "Nnena" which is Nuna. But he refused to say Papa and this made Pappy very disappointed. But nevermind Pappy, your turn will come soon!

Other than those words, Didi also can say words like:

Didi LOVES driving because Gonggong always put Didi on his lap while driving around the carpark and even lets him have a hand on the steering wheel..but in this video he was on the main road because apparently Didi passed and got his license!!

At Auntie Kay's house, I had a good time making tang yuan and painting my nails with Ting Ting. I didn't want to let go of the bottle of nail polish and just went on and on from one finger to 5, then 1 toe to 10 toes..but poor Ting Ting, she only managed to paint 1 or 2 fingernails and the bottle was gone. While we were painting, the 2 other boys just sat and watched in boredom. Marco lying on the floor, Didi hiding under the table.

We are finally settled back home in Seoul after one month in Singapore. We enjoyed the eating, shopping, and everything there. It started snowing heavily the day we arrived. What a great difference in weather. We MISS summer.

It's the time of the year for 김장, meaning making and storing kimchi for the whole year. We went to Gomo's house on Sunday to try to make kimchi. I didn't help much because mummy didn't allow me to do it. After that we went to the airport to fetch Yee-po because she came to Korea.

5 years ago on 31st Oct, mummy and pappy got married. Last Saturday we celebrated this happy occasion
with a nice buffet lunch. The food was good but I enjoyed the ice cream only. Didi made alot of noise because he just wanted to play with the forks and spoons and did not want to eat but I shared some ice cream with him and he loved it. I also took a walk around the restaurent with mummy to look at how the chef cut the raw fish and I loved the big salmon and squid on display. I told mummy to take a picture and show Yeeyee in Singapore.

This afternoon I was busy helping mummy take pictures of some bags to show Yeeyee some "samples" because Yeeyee was shopping for a new bag. When mummy took the 2 bags out, I insisted the big one was hers and the small one was mine. "Jaimie wants to use this back next month when we go Singapore"....

Our autumn '09 picnic

Autumn is here! Each time the season changes (except for winter) we will head to our favourite picnic place which is the Hangang river park. Last Sunday was such a day.
I helped mummy make rice balls with tuna mayonnaise and we packed some snacks for our picnic. We also brought my bicycle and the boomerang. Unfortunately the boomerang broke and we could not play with it but I had fun cycling. Didi also wanted to cycle but obviously he was too short. He could only sit up there with mummy's help and asked mummy to push so he could pretend to be a cyclist.

Mummy got this bicycle for me a year ago. Because of Didi's arrival and other factors, somehow we did not have much chance to practise and I just could not get the peddling right. Last Sunday we went to the Hangang Park and brought the bicycle along. Without much help, I managed to peddle by myself. I also knew how to maneuver the handle to turn left or right. It's easy!

Jaimie.....
- has learnt how to pretend to smoke a cigarette! Note that nobody in our family smokes...
She must have picked it up from the streets. She hides in a corner, puts anything that looks like a stick into her mouth and pretends to smoke. This really resembles mummy when she was a little girl. This must be proof that mummy's blood's running in Jaimie!

- is imitating everyone or everything that captures her attention. She has picked up the word "RUBBISH" which is Gong Gong's favourite word..and not forgetting the cantonese version "LAP SAP!". Ok Mummy is laughing hard as she is typing this.

- tries to behave like an adult all the time. Bossing everyone (including Mummy and Pappy) around. Saying "you don't eat so much! You will become sooooo fat. Do you want that?!!"

- can talk so much now considering she was a late bloomer in speech. Can ask so many questions which really makes Mummy GO CRAZY and when Mummy says "pls keep quiet for a while, Mummy is going crazy"...she says "Jaimie is going crazy too".

- is so bilingual now in English and Korean. Acts like a walking dictionary translating anything, everything from Korean to English or vice versa.

Jadon.....
- no longer the sweetie pie baby Jadon. Has learnt how to open all the drawers, access to knives (!!) and biting and destroying everything he finds. Jaimie's books have rotten and decomposed looking edges thanks to Jadon's teeth. He messes all the books and toys.

- is stubborn and has learnt how to express his wants. Comes to Mummy with the box of lego and screaming for it to be opened. Once opened, the lego pieces fly all over and the house becomes a big mess.

- learnt to hide things inside the drawers making everyone search for days.

- obsessed with the telephone and always putting the phone or something which looks like a phone close to his ears and pretend to be talking.

- learnt to put his bowl into the sink (but obviously can't reach) after he finishes his snack.

- learnt to climb up the step stool to reach for higher objects.

Banana milk

We went to the zoo today. It was Didi's first trip there but just like me when I was a baby, he ended up falling asleep before the highlights - lion and tiger feeding time. Anyways, he had his own fun like sitting on top of the tree, eating ice cream for the first time and sitting on the elephant tram.

I fell down a few times but got up by myself and said "Jaimie always fall down, rolling like a donut".... :D

And during the lion feeding time, I kept asking mummy MANY questions about why lions don't wear clothes, why lions don't talk and mummy finally said "MUMMY DON'T KNOW!".
My reply to mummy was "You don't know anything about animals, you silly". Ok, mummy couldn't stop laughing and I loved that!

We couldn't capture nice pictures with the animals but managed to have some fun shots and here we go!

Ever since he mastered his walk, we have not been to the playground because of the weather. Today, we decided to go after our grocery shopping trip. We met Didi's friend there, a small boy who is as thin as Didi and I played sand with him while Didi walked all over the place to explore new grounds..
Didi even stood on the suspending swing which I am still afraid of. Well done Jadon!!

Our new shopping bag

Mummy just bought a new shopping bag with wheels. We need this when we go to the supermarket or run errands without the stroller. I totally love it and want to push/pull it whenever we use it.

Jadon's Harley Davidson

This looks like a Harley Davidson for Didi when he rides on it because the handles are too high for him! But he is able to get onto it by himself and start riding without anyone teaching. Well done, Didi!

Didi walked on 10th August and since then, he had been walking everyday.

His little achievements:

1. gets up from sitting position to standing and to walking all by himself without holding onto anything...

2. walks very fast and over a longer distance, from living room to room (even though our house is small but still)...

3. while walking, he squarts down to pick up something without holding onto anything and gets up to walk again, without any support.

Mummy says his walk is better than mine when I was a baby.

10 Aug 09 - Jadon's first step

10th August - At 13 months 10 days old, Jadon walked on his own without any help. He was in the standing position and just moved on his own. Well done Didi!! After that he actually walked a small distance for several times. Mummy said he walked a longer distance than I did when I was a baby at my first steps.

Our summer trip '09

In the summer of 2007, we went to Kangwondo for our vacation but it was raining and we couldn't enjoy alot so we made it a point to go again this year with Jadon. This time, it drizzled a little but was still ok. We managed to visit the sheep farm again and this time, I fed and touched the sheep. The sheep felt like the rug in our house. We stayed for 2 nights in a chalet and had lots of good food. I helped Papa with the barbeque and I ate so much meat without vegetables!!

"Oops, sorry mummy, Jaimie can't eat vegetables because Jaimie will cough!"

3 Aug 09 - Jadon at 13 months took his 1st step today. On the soft ground at the playground, with the soft flower shoes which I wore when I was a baby, he took 2 to 3 steps by himself ! And he did it 2 times.

Mummy didn't manage to capture his walking but we had to take a picture of him and his shoes to remember this day!

In commemoration of Didi's first birthday, we had nice pictures taken at the studio. He didn't enjoy himself that much during the photo shoot and kept crying. It took us alot of singing, snacks and screaming (by the stylist) to capture these shots!

Today mummy drove alone for the first time in Korea, and with me and Didi sitting at the back. Driving in Singapore is not a problem but in Korea, with pappy''s one of a kind car (OLD CAR), and with Didi crying and crying, it is indeed a challenge for mummy. As a start, we drove to the nearby mart.

When mummy started the engine, I said, "출발!" which means "LET'S MOVE!" in Korean. When we were preparing to stop at the traffic light behind another car, I said to mummy, "Mummy, you cannot bang the car in front..." and mummy said "Jaimie, pls keep quiet". I acted like an instructor to mummy even though she is not a new driver but definitely a new mama driver in Korea.

I sat behind with Didi in his car seat. He kept crying from the start until we parked the car. I helped mummy to make Didi quiet by giving raisins, milk etc. It was fun afterall.
